Hi guys,
We could do with a list of compatible hard drives that work with images.
I have tried 3 so far:

80gb wester digital wd800 7200rpm: too noisy didn't continue

80gb maxtor diamond plus 9 6y080l 7200rpm: silent, but would not format in box

20gb maxtor 2b020h1 5600rpm: quietish..formatted great, records and plays perfect.

I have tried maxtor 10 , 120 and 160 ( all 7200 rpm I think ) and either they would not format or one was jerky playback and blocky after formatting and recording

not tried a 20 gig 5400 rpm yet

currently got a maxtor 160 gig ( either about 7k or 9k rpm ) in there at the moment and mp3 and pictures playback ok

I know nothing about the Technomate but if the file format is known you could try pre-formatting the new HDDs using Hirens boot disk or similar in a PC.

Off topic:

A lot od PVRs use the linux file system ext2 or ext3 as it is a public release (ie no licence needed by the box manufacturer).

Sly+ boxes use a variant of FAT so I guess they paid M$ something for that.

echelon i just tested this on 4 hard drives i think the Technomate is very similar to the relook in terms of hard drive.
The best way is to have a completely blank hard drive not formatted.

To do this connect drive to pc open control panel, select administrative tools, computer management.
Then on the left hand side disc Management this will give you a list of all drives.

Right click on the the one you want and select delete volume and thats it don't format.

It works every time for me .

If the drive is partitioned in to 2 or more delete volume on each partition and then delete extended partitions.

Hope this helps nml

I have just fitted a brand new 250 gb hitachi deskstar pata hard drive HDT722525DLAT80 and formatted and mounted ok in the tm9100 , quiet too !

plays mp3 and pictures ok

still pixellating and stuttering on video playback on the actual tm9100 ( using juliet006 )

so I hope this problem is fixed on newer firmware

otherwise it seems fine :)
