View Full Version : Factory reset from front panel?

On 2 different 9100s I've consistently failed to do a factory reset from the front panel, but can do so from the menu. Has anyone else had this problem? I've been holding in the CH+ button while switching on the rocker switch at the back (same procedure as a forced update on a S*y box, using the backup button). The receivers just lock up, with 4 dashes on the front, but boot normally when the mains is switched off/on again. Should the result be the same whether the reset is done from the front or through the menu, or is a front panel reset more "thorough" in some way?

Have always done mine from the menu.

I try to keep the physical switching on & off to a minimum as thats most likely to lead to a PSU blowup, or am I worrying about nothing?

Thanks for the reply, Peggle - and I'm sure you're right! If you've had no problem doing the resets from the menu, that's good enough for me. Still intrigued as to why I can't do the same from the front panel, though, and could be useful if there's a disaster loading software at any time.

kEEP IT TO A MINIMUM this box needs more rebooting than any I have seen before
Using UR8 beta 5 here, cc cam 1.71 and mgcam 123
I hope they release some stable stuff or soon we will see a lot of kaput boxes.

"needs more rebooting than any I have seen before" .........Have you had a Visionnet, A? Joking apart, it's one thing re-booting, another switcing the mains off/on, as far as the P.S. is concerned. I'd still like to see mine rset from the front panel though, just once!

no I dont have a visionnet.
How I reset mine was by keeping pressed the up+ channel it gave me a black screen with the option to factory reset

thanks for the rteply, A. That's what I've been doing. Mains off, hold CH+ button in , mains o0n, still keep CH+ button in, and wait .........nothing happens, no black screen, just 4 dashes on the front. Even when you release the CH+ button, still the same. Power off/on, and it boots normally!

if you have this connected via rf you will not get anything as the tuner does not initialize until boot.

connect via scart or phono's to see the boot screen

For me it was stuck trying to load the front screen Just the UR image in grey would appear and then go off and reappear so this is what I tried AS I could not connect or load or do anything with it.

[QUOTE=eme;449367]no, i reinstalled technomate software

What software?, you should only need to reinstall 005, do a factory reset and set the box up as a fta, then install the update image 006 and do another factory reset and start again.:D:D

Eme, are you sure the reset from the front panel worked to start with? Did you actually try it? I tried one straight out of the box and it wouldn't re-boot from the front! I also wondered whether it could be some kind of scart switching issue. What should appear on the front panel immediately after rebooting with CH+ held in? In other words, is it possible the receiver is producing the correct menu screen, but it can't be viewed?

i had a reset from panel working fine till i installed org firmware from technomate, i wanted to make a complete clean install up to 06. Still a hammer and chisel might work.:D:D

When you try to do a reset from the front, do you get 3(or was it 4?) dashes on the display, and the receiver locked up until you re-power it?

eme

the display shows four dashes, and boots to main firmware. ie ur6.

:)

There seems to be a slight difference then, I get the dashes, but the receiver won't boot at all until I re-power it.

could do with a bin to put all the problems of this reciver in. :D:D

Mostly minor (but irritating) problems, thouigh. Excellent value, and the software should get better. One thing I found confusing, it seems there's an "original 005" and a Juliet 005. I presume (not sure) that the Original is Technomate software - if so, any instruction to load "005 software" gives you only a 50% chance of getting it right. If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will correct me!

it does not matter if you use the

juliet ur or original 05 image first as long as its an 05 image.

personaly i used the juliet image but since you will be upgrading right away after installing it is totaly irrelivant to what file you use.

all the new images do not require anything loaded first so they will install direct from factory (however these new images are still in there beta stage tests)

I thought i had this problem (no factory reset after reboot) but it was simply a case of the tv not getting a signal from the box to switch the channel over to the correct scart extension.

As a few here have noticed, the connections to the tv are important. I manually switched the tv over to the correct scart channel and the screen was there. I presume the box wasn't sending out the required signal while the "on/off channel up" screen was present.

Might work, might not? :p
