recording from digital tv

hope this is the right section for this! I have a Toshiba lcd hd tv with freeview can I record to dvd with hard disc drive from the tv when it is off or on standby?

unlikely

the tv normally has to be on for you to use the inbuilt tuner for most or all televisions , so I would think it has to be on in this case too

so you end up recording what you are watching ! I know mine have to be on for this to work ( not HD however as I dont have one )

it would have to be switched on no matter what

if it has an rf channel you can record from that , if it doesnt it would need an external scart socket and you connect that to your recorder

so ideally it should have an rf channel and a scart as well ( and a scart to the tv )
