I found in a London shop, small and unseemly, around Camden, at £49.

Anybody knows any better, please?

Any INTROs/HOW TO's?

Cheers!

Emu is definitely available for echolink 777 fta

This is the guide most people are referred to, but in practice it is far simpler than all these words suggest esp when you are used to loading firmwares to stb's

Except: :)
I would add that I was unable to use my minimally wired custom made null modem cable that worked fine with my humax, I had to use a fully wired cable I had knocking about which I'd bought years ago, both for firmware and channel editor. I don't know how others got on in this regard
The channel editor isn't very highly featured so I edited a bit using it and finished off editing the channels on the box
Remember to back up channels to guard aganst future losses. also with channel editor I always had to go through process twice to get it to work
loading to and from stb - so if it throws up an error just persist by switching stb off and on again and repeat.

UnOfficial Guide for Max S100 and EL 700 etc update 17th May

THIS IS BEST FROM THE BEST IN THIS FIELD MR HAMISH [SCRUFFY] MANY THANNEWS: New Software issued 16th May 2007.
All other updates since then are Keys only.

PLEASE DO TAKE YOUR TIME - READ THIS FIRST

FIRST GET THE LATEST SOFTWARE FIRST HAND. /color]
The Latest Max S100 and Clones Updates Flash ( *.bin ) Files can
be found in posts on this site.
[ww.more***.***/download/index.html
http://fmax.*******.***/maxs100/index.html
Also Download Maxeditor.exe

Make sure you have the latest ALIMINIUPG2.EXE Programme.
It is also a good idea to put them all in the same folder.

========CONNECTING TO YOUR PC AND STB=============
You need a 9 pin 3 wire null modem cable between the STB
and your computer. Best to have 9 pin serial connection on the Computer
side as well. If you are making the cable yourself then
-> Connect 2-3 3-2 5-5. and nothing else.
In other words 3 straight through wires - then reverse 2 and 3 on one side.
If you absolutely have to use a usb -> 9 pin null modem
BUT make sure you have the software for it and/ or set it up correctly.
(Some USB to 9 pin Null modem cables can be erratic in operation.)
NOTE:There appears to be a problem with some usb null modem cables and the
ALIMINIUPG2.EXE loader on these clones. The cable works
with other STB's and flashes software - but seems to read the data
from the STB bit will not send the flash.bin file. Solution is to use
another PC with a RS232 (Serial Port ).
IF This is NOT a NEW STB Save your Favourites.
The way to do this is as follows.
Menu Channel Save Channel list and Settings.
Input Password 0000
Do you want to save current etc. Select YES
Come out of menu - Turn off STB.

Now Start the ALIMINIUPG2 software on your PC.
Ensure the STB Receiver is turned OFF with the switch at the back.
Wait about Ten secon#s. The Power Light MUST remain off.

Now Return to the Computer.
Open the ALIMINUPG programme
1. select the appropriate sw.v1.3.4.mmddyy.bin file.
2.Select the Com port (The one connected to the Cable on the computer).
3. Click Next.
In the next few secon#s Turn the STB ON using the switch at the Back.
This will start the process .
Dont touch anything till it is finished !
Once the transfer is done turn the receiver off for 5-10 secon#s
and then turn it back on again.

====ONCE IT STARTS UP (It takes up to 10 secon#s) BE PATIENT====
From the IRD Select Menu Tools Factory Default.
The code to enter here is 0000
After the factory reset you then need to rescan the channels for
the satellite(s) selected.
================================= ============
From the IRD Select Menu and key in 2020 and set CAS DECODING to on.
HIT THE MENU KEY THEN 2 0 2 0
QUITE SLOWLY AND DELIBERATELY.
If you do it quickly it will not work.
Menu 2020 toggles the CAS on and Off.
Become comfortable doing this - its a bit finnicky.
If you cannot do this then you are stuck with FTA !!!!
Finally Restore FAVOURITES if you saved them!
Menu Channel Restore Channel list and Settings.
Input Password 0000
"The operation will restore the last backup etc. Select YES .
This RESTORES YOUR PREVIOUSLY SAVED CHANNEL LIST
after A FLASH UPGRADE.
=============A=U=T=O=R=O=L=L===== =========== .

Autoroll Toggle ON / OFF . Key in Menu 2 1 2 1

===T=0=====M=A=N=U=A=L=L=Y==A=D=D ==K=E=Y=S=====
You can hand key in the Keys from the menu if the CAS is ON.
Key options on the menu are not visible with the CAS turned OFF

Menu -> Tools -> Key Editor.
Select Encryption System
Select Key
Then Enter Values
Using the Remote Keys like a mobile phone.
NAGRA2 Keys go in as 32 Hex characters against
the current Key number either 00 or 01..
DO NOT PUT 16 Characters in Key 00 and 16 Characters
in Key 01 - It's NOT the way to do it .

The Procedure for BISS or D Keys is slightly different.
Got to the channel you wish to decrypt on the normal mode.
The screen will say Scrambled.
Then Press Menu ->Keys Editor - > BISS .
Then enter the BISS or D and the Keys as required.
Don't forget to SAVE them!

===========OTHER USEFUL SOFTWARE =============
The Original Software for the Max S100 is in
http://www.**********.com
It has no built in keys. If you s up you can try flashing
with this firmware - it should get you back to where you started.
ALIEDITOR
You can use Alieditor.exe to read and write to the Receiver.
You can introduce new channels, and hand key in favourites
from scratch.
I have never worked out how to get the Favourites on a STB
back to ALI Editor and then edit them. I have found it much easier
to edit the favourites on the STB then save them as described above.
Do the Flash and then restore them. That was until MORESAT
developed MaxEditor.exe which you
should use. It is on this forum and has a whole section of its own.
Do use it and help develope it !!
It does what Ali Editor does not do- You can edit the channels
and favourites with software - easily, and push and pull them
from the STB. The script.ini file was updated on 14/05/2007.

ALL_KE.exe
This allows you to import softcam.key files
- It shows up structural errors in the softcam.key files.
Many softcam.key files are not 100% and you may need to
fix them with any basic text editor (i.e. Notepad) before
you compile and upload the data from the PC to the STB.
http://*****-***.info/showthread.php?t=43507
The software tells you the line number in the text file where
the error is - they are usually easy to spot. It isn't high power
software debugging. If in doubt delete the line. Most of those
keys are antiques and havent worked for months or even years!

If you are only adding one or two keys it is easier to do it with
the remote - using the method described above.

Master Code for the Max S100 is 3327
================================= ==============
Your Information should Read as follows.

Bootloader 0.9.6 - 07/12/2006

Thanx for the info and thoughts, guys! Very useful!

I certainly will forward this to my friends and then - it's up to them...

What about the CS - any words of wisdom from experience, please?

Offering and seeking it maybe, deffo not cool to be giving the private details - but talking about it in principle, for educational purposes only, you understand, is not... See the Samsung section to see what I mean, as I wrote quite a bit on the subject...;)

Thank you kindly, m8s!:)

I have now forwarded it all to my friend, she agreed and I bought 3020 for her.

I tested it and it [the whole thing: overall + the Emulator that is done for the receivers, FTA and the rest] works very well, keys easily sorted via a remote [done it myself and taught a kid how to do it in 3 minutes flat... :D] etc....

Not yet done anything via a PC.

£60 plus £5 for the long null modem cable. A good deal, indeed, Raby!;) Much better that way, than EL777 [£49] with no card reader.

Settings could be better when done manually - not recognising the names of various channels... Also, network of transponders is not 100% from what I could see/remember [missing Taquilas and Premiere transponders/channels].

In the CAM Menu there are 3 options:

Seen the CS - only GBox SSSP - but not more than that... Any words of wisdom, please? Must be via a PC, serial cable connection etc., so similar to what I have written regarding CS with GBox for Samsung DSR 9500 VIACI, in general.

What's the dongle for?

Card reader [1 slot] reads at least Via 1 and 2 and Irdeto 1 and 2. Anything else, please? Seen the Via 2 card in action and the reader reads it all nicely and displays the details... Cool.

And the big Q: how do you sort out the DiSEqC motor, please? I couldn't hack it... Echolink rec couldn't remember my reference point, position number 1 = 0.8'W Thor, when using 1.2 protocol. It kept going astray...

USALS were a bit confused, shall we say...

There is a part in the menu to put in your Longitude and Latitude and it gives you the elevation etc. Nice touch.

But how does one actually sort the whole motorised thing once the dish and motor are up? Then what exactly needs doing, please, with this particular rec? Anyone done it, please?

Let me explain: my friend has the dish and motor sorted and we just needed to make it speak to the installed motor... Alas!

Manual could be improved - seriously!

Any advice welcome!

Cheers!

Not at all. I had to tune in each sat separately but once done have had no problems. I've now had mine for about a month or so on a motor and have had no problems with positioning. But maybe i'm a one off. ;)

you have to rely on updates, when they end you have a FTA box.

you have to rely on updates, when they end you have a FTA box.

the same with cams and cards, they too rely on updates and eventually you're left with ice scrapers and no watchable channels! The DB is still the best buy in the long run, have been around before most cams and cards now on the market and will be around after they've retired as ice-scrapers.

Having a bit of fun for £42.99 Tony after 5yrs not buying anything more than a couple of lnbs :D

Think I can afford for it to go **** up :p

Thats why I bought the cheapest - not interested in cards or cams !

Not that I think it will for a while it has been supported for quite a long time now, anyone who bought any of these clones early has had a very good run already.

Alpha1

I must agree also.

My Humax 5100ci, Blackice & Matrix reloaded cams were my last investment years ago, I've seen many cards & cams at more than twice the price of this STB.
Let alone programmers like the infinity usb and 3 bloody CAS programmers to keep the cams and cards updated.

Im having fun with it on C*bo & Dpl*s alone the rest is a bonus for me.

So far "AFAIC" this is an outstanding bargain STB and has made redundant lots of sat stuff thats going to be sold on flea-bay :)

AFAIC

scrappydoo
10-08-2007, 08:31 PM
SW clearing the above is out, i havent tested it yet, will do so soon. As for the comments on echolink price...yes i wanted something cheap and cheerful after having all sorts of cams and cards that cost more than this box and delivered less - apart from dragon of course [great cam].

remember:
even if there is no more support, as long as codes are available for d+ they can still be inputted manually, it also does biss, so maybe it wont just be a fta box after all....

I purchased a brand new echolink FTA 700+ from local sat dealer. cheap as chips..currently abroad, so exchange rate worked out to be about £22. Not bad; works great and pretty fast!. This model has no card reader but hey! no problem. i've been told via RS232 A EXTERNAL card reader can be connected and new multicam menu will be supported in future firmware.Thought the bloke just wanted to sell the box and talking out off his backside but its feasable to do this.

lo goran m8, long time indeed :)

It was pure concidence tbh i purchased this box as i bought my faithful nokia dbox1 with me for only fta viewing. Not much use without a card etc.. it was only when i was reading Dish channel magazine by tracksat (similar to wot satellite mag in the uk) which gets circulating in this part of the world.Thats when i read French provider TPS was working! quick drive to local dealer asked him if he had echolink recievers.. find store room packed with these models lol :D. Best thing about these boxes is the price very reasonable, inexpensive.I'm sure will see some new improved firmware with greater support in the near future.
