My TM 4100 is on it's last legs and my daughters have said they will pay for a new receiver.
I'm not really into patches and/or cards/cams. Just want a nice easy receiver with blind scan/power search.
Do I go for a 1000 or 1500 or 1600? I did hear that the blind search on the TM1000 was very very slow. I do not want one that takes hours to scan one satellite position.
Any ideas? Thanks, in advance for any advice.
Norm.

I would have thought the tm1500 ci super is the one you want as its supposed to have blind search
and it has a cam slot and a card reader too
and they are all easily updated using the serial port , patches are common and tend to work , tm softcams come out everyday
easy to use , easy to backup , easy to patch and easy to update keys with softcam or by remote control
mine is connected to an 8 way diseqc switch and works fine ( but isnt a super )

It's always a question of what is suitable for ones needs. Hard to give advice. But in my opinion :
TM 1000 series is OK receivers but they are not longer tomorrows receivers. Among them TM 1500 Super is the best. From time to time there are new patches out and you also can load softcam.key file to update it.
If you want a more advanced receiver with the same possibilities as Dreambox you should consider TM9100 receiver (veryyy cheap atm) or a TM9100 Super which is the latest of this model.
If you want a receiver for tomorrow you should look for a HD receiver like ex Fortec Star Passion HD and suplement it with a Diablo Cam.
The day after tomorrow receiver is probably Dreambox 8000 which has not been launched yet - but probably will be during this year. In other words a HD linux receiver is my choise if i had to choose. (Kathrein have a HD linux based receiver out in the market, but don't know anything about it).

i wouldnt touch fortec if i was given a free one. installed a few. i had a hd model and they all went back. the only one i know still working is a customer with a diamond (built in free view) . hes on fixed 16 east with conax cam and seems happy. that one was a recon and bought cheap, so even that had gone back . hope theyve improved. tm1500 for me at present . does everything i want

Fortec Star Passion HD and also Homecast HD are going over most HD receivers today. You must have been really unlucky mate.
I would agree with all of those that have said Technomate, I have the 1500 CI+ model, it has the blind search and it is very easy to use.
Unless you want a challenge dont go for the linux based machines the dreambox and technomate 9100 are great when working but its NOT plug and play, but is going to be the future, there is little point in HD at the moment as so few HD channels. The 1500 is a great plug and play machine which is very easy to use.
I have both the 9100 and the 1500 on the same dish the main one i use is the 9100 but its been a hard slog to get what i want and i use beta software with a new update of ur009beta3 pos released in 48hrs, i keep the 1500 connected because if things sart to go wrong i turn off the 9100 and on the 1500 to watch the program then back to sort the 9100.
Also now with SSSP the 1500 can do a lot more!!!

Thanks chaps for your advice. As I mentioned, I'm not into patches or cards etc, so the 1500 will suit me fine.
Thanks again for all your help, I've ordered a 1500. If it is as sensitive as the old TM4100 I shall still be able to watch films on Badr and Nilesat in english.

Definately go with the 1500ci+ or 1500ci+ super. Both excellent choices and very easy to set up,use and keep updated.

technomate 1500ci+ is so easy to patch and update it has fantastic support and its price is so cheap..why pay so much for cams when this offers so much.
