Anyone tried a Firmware update from one receiver - TM1500CI Super to an old TM5500CI.
It says it can be done but what is the effect? Does it screw up the TM 5500 or does it work?
Welcome any experience.

I heard of someone who downloaded the 1500 to the 5500 and had mixed results. The remote from neither of the boxes would work the updated receiver and there were other problems.
I think I'll just update from the TM site with the latest 5500 Firmware.
This is now possible because I have a null modem cable and was too damn lazy to do it earlier.
A small point. Do you know of any way to separate the remotes for each TM receiver. If you change one it also changes the other.
There is a trick with the Sky remotes about putting tape down the side of the magic eye but that won't work with the TM.
BTW thanks again for your patience on the Darkman patch. Now downloading like a professional!!!!! I wish!
Everything is fine and it saved so much trial and error.
Best regards

the tm5500 can be updated and converted to a next receiver with similar results , and the remote doesnt work so you need a new one
not worth doing really
and no I dont think you can alter the remotes to stop one operating the other , I had a similar problem with a 5500 so its doing nowt at the moment

its a make or brand of receiver
like technomate , clarketech , echostar etc
the 5500 can be patched to make it the same as the next branded receivers ( not a tm1500 )
some receivers are marketed under different names but essentially are the same box , possibly with their own custom firmware
so to answer your question , it can be made into the equivalent next receiver by patching with the correct patch , but you may need a new remote if you havent got the correct one ( like I havent )
and no it cannot be turned into a tm1500
