Can someone explain this to me? On the one hand everyone is on about Polsat switching to Nagra3, but then that's what they said about TVCabo and it turned out to be a ROM142.

Maybe Nagra think they can play tricks with analysts.....

I suppose Rom142 can be considered Nagra3 as the modifications are quite noticeable: the use of 1024bit RSA for instance seems very likely.

Card swap expected to take until Spring 2008 so I am not going to get ulcers over it.

Are Nagra Rom142 original cards still readable for CS situations?

Is this change to combat a) the public release of keys or b) allowing cards to be used for CS purposes?

If it's b and other packages follow, then it could kill a lot of CS servers

Both but do not worry unduly N3 is cracked in the States so sooner rather than later we will be back up again.

Did your brother's wife tell you that, who lives in Dallas and has seen it first hand on her mate's ranch?

m8 think what he's getting at is that nagra 1 and 2 were first cracked in USA.
