By tradition the wording "Ram.bin" was used for key files created for Samsung receivers and "Key.bin" was used for files for Humax receivers.

In the past such files were compatible with either receiver and then the receiver software diverged and different key editors and key files were necessary.
Now, with the latest ToH, software has converged again and (in theory) the key files should be inter-changeable.

However, I would suggest that you continue to use Key.bin files for your Humax.

The actual name for the key file can be anything you wish as long as it contains the ".bin" suffix.
Example: Marinas_220907_HoT9.5_key.bin

With this name you can see (in theory) the following:

Creator: Marina
Creation Date: 22.09.07
Use with: HoT9.5 Humax software
Content of file: Keys
Type of file: Bin file

Why are some called Ram.bin
To find out why a Humax user may save a key file as "Ram.bin", try the following:
1. Open DSR9500 v5.6 key editor
2. Click on the "Read" button to down load a copy of the keys stored in your receiver.
3. Select "File / Save File"

You will now note that the suggested name for the file to be saved as is "Ram.bin". If anybody saves the file using the suggested name, they are likely use the same name when uploading to a forum.

Reasons why a key file may not work are as follows:
1. The key file is accidently corrupt
2. The key file is deliberately blank
3. The key file is intended for use with a different ToH / HoT version.
4. The software in your Humax has become corrupt and the keys are not being written correctly to the Ram Editor in your receiver.
5. The key file is intended to be used with a different Key Editor Version

Useful Practice.
1. Open two copies of DSR9500 Key Editor.
2. Click on the the "Read" button in version 1 to download your existing keys.
3. Use "File / Open" to load your new Key file into version 2 of DSR9500
4. Click on "Write" to send your new Key file to your receiver.
5. If this file does not work, over-write your receiver with the existing keys still present in version 1 of DSR9500
6. Remember, you can manually edit your existing Key file before writing it back to your Humax.
