Yes they are used by the SETI league. Lovely design and very low noise performance as well. The final aray will have 350 of them connected together. I would be happy with just 1 of them :D

2.4mtr big ? no but this is !

lmao :D. Keano m8 trust me after a few years you will find your 2.4m dish small! I've got a Orbitron 3.6m antenna in my back garden, installed by myself well over 10 years ago, and tbh too me its small, its been bugging me for years that i need something bigger lol ;)
Oh btw! i wouldn't bother hiding the dish,get maximum signal + arc. i've got mines on a 4" dia' HSS steel pipe - 7m length,[3.5m length of pipe is buried under the ground with pure concrete and 3.5m is off the ground]. I even added a steel grid 2mx2m sq, to strengthen the ground foundation, as I knew the dish weights a ton and knowing UK weather, needed the extra supports otherwise £3k worth of stuff would've gone out of the window.

@bosspak

How did the local council deal with your planning application, did they ask any questions as to why you want a dish that big ?

@munted101
What is planning?
I put mine up,(1.2 and 1.8 channel master) told the neighbours as its down the garden i can do as i want, never had a thing now after over 10years they cannot do anything on either dish.
The wife was more of a problem when i put the 3rd up she went mad and had to go back to two in the garden and a rup** on the house!!

Why would you have to explain WHY you like a big dish? Thats none of anybody s business.
I mean, some long distance calls to Alpha Centauri DO need some slightly larger antennae.

What planning application lolol :D. Not applied for one, as i didn't need one!

Never have i ever had any problems with neighbours nor council, with my dishes, i've even got a 2.4m solid antenna next to it. Tbh its down to individual local councils and if neighbours have no problems then council have none.

P.S 99.9% of the time,the neighbour who reports to the local council :mad:

Cheers m8,

How does the mesh type of dish perform ?

BoSSpak

How does the mesh type of dish perform ?

The old normal mesh is not very good for ku-band signal,ie (3.6m antenna would perform like a 1.8m dish) neverthless it doesn't effect c-band signal.

Well MicroMesh(MM) is a different ball game. This was a new type of mesh which were incorprated on orbitron,kti, parclipse dishes. The holes which makeup the mesh are very small,can't recall the figure from top of my head;but this in a effect gives a better performance under ku-band. I know from my own experience my Obitron 3.6 MicroMesh dish performs like a 2.8m -3m solid dish. so you have best of both worlds C/ku band.

You are right BoSS about the next door, my next door neighbour reported to the council few years ago that i have got 2 dishes. basically i had one 80cm dish and the second 12"x12" tiny caravan dish hanging on the same pole. The council man knocked on my door to see my dish which i allowed him. Second day i received a big notice to remove my second dish as i need a planning permision which cost 35 pounds to apply for it. All because i asked the neighbourer to cut the tree. Some neighbourer's are cheeky.

You are allowed dishes up to 1m without planning now. So put a bigger dish up, just to annoy him:D
