Wont comment on Englands greatest ever player beckham!

Austria
The country has not yet qualified for a European Championship; it will play in the tournament for the first time in 2008 when it co-hosts the event with Switzerland.

If Englands greatest player is Beckham, then Good Bye England!
Was good before Victoria and the Brand Beckham scene, but now only interested in money.
100 caps means even more money for him than the status of patriotism for England.
Sad but true.:frown:

Best wishes from,

Gibson.

England on the brink

VM examines McClaren's faltering Euro campaign

McClaren carries the can - but is he to blame?

The dawning horror that England might not qualify for another major international tournament could be about to be made shockingly real this Saturday evening.

Should Russia beat Israel and Croatia don’t fall to Macedonia then England’s Euro 2008 campaign will be over before it’s begun. And with it Steve McClaren’s job. The cruel irony is that, while football is always more than just one game and one man, the man in the suit on the sidelines must ultimately carry the can. So where did it all go wrong?

Here are Virgin Media’s real reasons why the wheels came off:

The Premiership. The Premiership. Too many foreign players in the Premiership first teams. The more top foreign talent we import, the fewer English players can come through: “The national team has to be under threat - the numbers show that. I don't think you can underestimate it. It’s a major concern,” says Sir Trevor Brooking.

Tactics. Slow burn build ups with wafty long balls in are out of vogue in the modern game. The Russians’ snappy play left England baffled.

Goalkeepers. Why did McClaren persist with Robinson when it was clear he was out of form? Perhaps because he knew the next best with international experience was David James, brilliant one day, prone to inexplicable errors of judgement the next.

Beckham. A great crosser, but these days he’s off the pace and not a great tackling force. And it highlights the manager’s desperation when he must rely on an aging no.7 at set-pieces to find goals. And getting him to 100 caps isn’t enough to warrant selection.

Injuries. Critical players (Ashley Cole, Wayne Bridge, Wayne Rooney) have been crocked at critical times, but the manager’s playboard allows for little flexibility, so replacements often have to play without team experience – Emile Heskey is a case in point.

The FA. First Sven, now McClaren – the board must carry some responsibility for their choices. Their next appointment MUST be of a higher calibre.

The Premiership (again). Too many cups, too many matches, too many tired and injured players.

The players. They’re the best of the best, so why do so many club superstars mis-fire when they pull on the three lions?

The players. They’re the best of the best, so why do so many club superstars mis-fire when they pull on the three lions?

Do people actually believe that the England players are really World class Footballers? I mean how many would say that Frank Lampard, Paul Robinson, Shaun Wright Philips, Joe Cole are real World Class. I think there is only maybe Ferdinand, Terry and Rooney that may fit the bill but then 2 of them are defenders. What England lack and what they have lacked for a long time is a Footballer that can do what Paul Gascoigne could do. And thats not getting ****ed and falling and breaking his knee caps! No, I mean the bit of brilliance that can turn a game, the creativity he had. I don't even think Rooney is in the same class as Gascoigne. Facts are facts. Since 1966 England have made TWO major Semi Finals, World Cup 1990 and Euro 1996. Paul Gascoigne was definetly the main reason for this. When they keep going on about World Class Footballers do the Italians/French/Brazilians look at the England team and drool at our "World" class footballers. I think not! Players such as Frank Lampard and Joe Cole are playing with World class footballers at there clubs which makes them look better than they actually are. Even Rooney, in my opinion, is not in the same class as Ronaldo. World Class Footballers is an expression said too often about Englands over paid and over hyped football players.

I ask the question. Why play has been Beckham?
Surely he is not being considered for our next campaign.
Is it a friendship/monetary issue, even a publicity stunt or worst of all "Brand Beckham" pressure. Meaning "Pick me" and I guarantee I will state nationally that I back the England manager.
Paul Gasgoigne come back all's forgiven!!

Gibson.

Was no delay -- But yea in Prem games there is a Delay! I cant get DAB or Freeview where I am :(

Thought Austria were ok - good spirit and some fast players. Stadium looked good as well. Looking forward to havin some bougle and some beers next summer there :D

I see a lot of games now where like 14yo lad's play. If you get on there back saying there are crap and they should sort it out, your destroy them! Instead you have to praise them - remmebering there good pioints in a game and sayin well played. ENgland players have a mental age of 14yo? I think so! Thats one of the core problems they dont like being heckled as they are so nice and and shiny!

Ok - so you dont like Beckham - but why do so-called English 'supporters' perpetually have to slag off their BEST players like this?
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of course - but why oh why cant we actually appreciate our REAL committed stars like Beckham - nearly 100 caps speak for themselves - you dont get that many for doing 'nothing' all your soccer life, so lets enjoy him while we still have him, cos even Maclaren had to admit that England WITH Beckham was so MUCH better than England WITHOUT him when we so badly lost our way without the 'generator being present!
They all have bad days - even Terry - yes even Gascoigne, who very rarely turned it on for England, except for in our 'dimmed sentimental' memories - had mega poor games!
We English really should learn to take the bad with the good and ok I do agree that we have a very over-rated overpaid squad at present, but thats footie I'm afraid!
In MY opinion! :D

I believe that there is no problem at all with the amount of overseas players currently playing in the Premiership. The main problem is our English born players and there lack of intelligence.

Like most sports Football is a thinking mans game and between the England squad I reckon they have about 6 brain cells and one of them is on the blink.

The only intelligent player in the England squad with brains is Owen Hargreaves and he was educated in Canada.

For the rest of the squad if you sent them to the local shop for a pint of milk, you would have to write it down for them in case they forgot what they were going for.

Compare the current England squad with the one in 1966,the squad of 66 were good footballers and more important intelligent and look what we ended up winning.

You can have all the talent in the world playing football but if you are thick you are basically flogging a dead horse.

Yours Intelligently

What we have to remember is Beckhams age he has had his day and looking at his performance last night on pitch he looked like he is not far off retirement.

Personally I don't think Beckham was ever THAT good.
