Hi Dimps
This sometimes happens if your using a USB to Serial converter lead.
I recommend using a ethernet cable to flash rather than via RS232.
See _http://www.dream-multimedia-tv.de/dm500/ for more help.
Cheers, Lee.

I know you probally tried this already but one more try won't hurt
plug out the box, start dreamup, select the com port, make sure the network option is not ticked, press connect, wait for status "connection prepared, now switch on the dream box" - now plug in the dream box.
If you get to this point without errors you are ok, select flash and load your choice image.

I have never seen a recovery file for a dm500 and a quick search on the net does not reveal much, I could not find anything on the connections either.
let us know if you have any luck re jtag.
btw did you try the serial upload with a different Pc?

Ok so you could connect over lan at your cousin, what about by serial only (no network ticked). If you can connect by serial do a flash erase before flashing new image.
