brought the old humax down to upload the latest patch and when i plugged it in i noticed a problem that i cant seem to get my head around.

when i plug it it in, it starts to load with four dashes, then H1.37, then the ra, then the four dashes and red stand by light and then it shuts down?? i checked it was all conected up properly inside and gave it quick once over with my non-technical eyes and everything seems fine. but when its shuts itself down, the red led on the back in S/PDIF is constantly flashing, suggesting that power is evident??? now if i leave it a few seconds, it does the same and wont power up beyond the opening seconds. the power supply isnt that old, maybe a couple of years with not much useage.

anybody got any clues?? new power supply maybe?? dont ask me to start with multimeters because it would be like asking a snowman to cook toast in fro nt of an open fire!!

hi roofer32,
oh no don't tell me you gone done broke it again, :D, sorry could not resist, I would say providing you have not used any fly by night fixes promising the world in the last day or two, this is purely a physical problem, working on the report that it powers down, so no point in flying off trying all sorts of software fix.

sorry but you have just knocked my first answer for cold, so my second would be make sure you do not have a faulty connection at the plug, or not pushed in at the box, (of course you have but I had to say it)

the next would be to visually look at all the little tin can things on the psu board and see if you can either see a bulgy one or top popped, or darkened with heat, and generally look around for something that looks a bit wrong, but it does look like the PSu

sorry
voith

i have just tested with mine, if your box was in standby when you unplugged it, it would go to four flashing green dashes, little green dot underneath, and a red light on the right, but stay on.

if switched on and powered down, when powered back up, it would go right through to the channel No.

just thought i would shove that in

it`s one of two things......

1. your power supply is on it`s way out,

or 2. you just need to load in a new channel list

probably the first. Upgraded Humax power supplies are around £20 on Eeee_bay, do a search. One i got is still going strong three years later.

hello voith, yeah ive gone and broke it again. lol

just for refference, i have not updated since 10.0 and was plugging it in for 10.01 of here and didnt get that far

anyway, it starts up as if to power up with the firmware number and then instead of loading in a channel number, it loads in the 4 dashes, red light and the green dot underneath (as if in standby) and just shuts down. but as i said earlier, the red led on the back continues to flash for some reason.

im going to open it up again and pass my novice eye over the components to see if there is a problem
