Pioneer PDP-4280XD a compelling option
At over £1000, it might not sound like much of a bargain for a 42in plasma, but Pioneer's PDP-4280XD is a compelling option.
Cheaper contenders such as Panasonic's excellent new TH42PX80 push the Pioneer close in all areas, but the PDP-4280XD still offers what is in our opinion the best all round picture performance available.
What makes this screen such a compelling option is that it can be sourced off the web if you look hard enough at less than half recommended retail price (RRP). You will pay another £200-300 for the PDP-428XD which has a few extra features but offers the same picture performance 'out of the box'. Also, if you want a pedestal for the PDP-428XD (the PDP-4280 comes with one attached), it will cost you over £100 for what amounts to a rather cheap looking piece of plastic.
