Samsung HL-T5087S DLP HDTV

At the forefront of Samsung’s products are DLP-based rear-projection HDTVs. These DLP-based rear-projection HDTVs have always been a mainstay of Samsung’s extensive HDTV offerings, and with the Samsung HL-T5087S, the company has been true to this fact.

To follow up on its release of the HL-S5679W - the first widely available DLP to be powered by LEDs and 2006 Best of CES winner in the television category - Samsung has released the HL-T5087S, a 50-inch DLP HDTV that replace standard bulbs with a trio of light-emitting diodes, which imbues them with a longer life span (20,000 hours before needing replacement, as opposed to 3,000 to 6,000 hours with a bulb), an immunity to the rainbow effect, and the ability to impart that warm sense of environmental responsibility associated with mercury-free gear.

They further increase appeal by decreasing the depths of their cabinets compared to last year’s models. The HL-T5087S has a 1080p (1,920×1,080) native resolution and the much talked about 3D-ready technology.

When it comes to displaying pictures how you want to see them, Samsung TVs get the job done. Built-in analog tuners allow you to connect with an RF signal cable directly to the set and watch regular TV right out of the box, or use the integrated ATSC tuner or clear QAM to pick up high definition programs broadcast over the air or through cable. HDMI inputs mean you have access to the most current video technology available, and component, composite and S-video inputs allow you to connect your older components.

The HLT5087S’s wide screen aspect ratio means your screen is filled with DVD and HDTV images which are increasingly available and presented in wide screen formats. The Digital Natural Image engine (DNIe) makes the sharpest and clearest images possible, regardless of the profile of input signals. Five image processors and a six-times density enhancer ensure the best picture from any source.

Now in its sixth generation (since 2002), DNIe guarantees the truest colors and highest contrast, while virtually eliminating digital artifacts. With My Color Control, you can customize pink, green, and blue colors to your taste without affecting the other colors on the screen. Add to that a 10,000:1 contrast ratio, and you’ll see details you’ve never picked up before.

With all this great video technology, it’s hard to imagine the HLT5087S can get any better. But the audio technology included just rounds out this package of perfection. The two 10-watt speakers are boosted with SRS TruSurround XT, a patented technology that solves the problem of playing 5.1 multichannel content over two speakers.

TruSurround delivers a compelling, virtual surround sound experience through any two-speaker playback system, including internal television speakers and headphones. It is fully compatible with all multichannel formats up to 6.1 channels.
