Anyone else read reports that the DM800 will come with a DVI to HDMI lead (DMM have opened their hearts) AND they have wired the DVI socket for audio.
Is this possible and what would happen if an ordinary DVI lead was used?

I´ve also heard that the DM800 will be supplied with DVI->HDMI cable and that both video and audio will be passed through DVI. Hopefully it is true.

There are some ATi graphics cards that have DVI out which will also pass through audio which when used in combination with the correct adapter will pass to HDMI.

It has been confirmed elsewhere that it does indeed carry audio over DVI.

Using a standard DVI > HDMI cable I expect would result in no audio.

after reading different things about this i emailed dream this is the reply i got

the licences concerning the audio-transfer are requested by us but it is
planned to be supported, we are waiting for a reply. At the moment I have no
definitive information but I believe that a DVI-HDMI-adaptor-cable will be
delivered with the DM800, please ask again in about 1 week, then I will have
the information.
To sum it up: If we get the response to our inquiry regarding the licences it
will be possible to use the adaptor-cable to transfer audio+video to your TV.

The release here is planned in about 1-1,5 weeks, it should be available in
the UK only a few days later.

so still no concluesive answer to our questions!!!

Thanks for taking the trouble to email them and let us know your reply.
I am surprised that you managed to actually get a reply, as I still think they are taking the p*ss, do they seriously expect us to believe the box will be available in under 2 weeks in the UK when they haven't even decided if they can wire the DVI socket for audio?
How much longer will this saga drag on for? With the Kathrein and now the IP9000 being able to run mgcamd (unconfirmed) I am not going to wait much longer. (yet another rant over)

@crabber...Kathrein & Ipbox / DM800 is really a case of apples and oranges. You might wanna hang on just a bit longer?

yes, but only with the supplied ATI adapter, so your point is ?

yes, but only with the supplied ATI adapter, so your point is ?

That may be because of a licence concern (they using their own adapter instead of a standard cable that is!)

As dream asked i contacted them again after waiting a week to see if thay could answer the questions about dvi/sound,when it woulb be available, this is the reply

yes, sound and picture is planed to be deliverd to the TV by using DVI. Im am
writing "planed" because the licenses regarding this have already been applied
by us, we are just waiting for the "OK".
The device will be released here in about 1-1,5 weeks and will be available in
the uk shortly after this.
An adaptor-cable DVI-HDMI will be included, a scart-cinch-adaptor (1 video, 2
Audio)
as well.

If you have got more questions fell free to contact us.

I may go for a DM8000 if/when they come out and are well supported and versatile but at the moment I am pleased I canceled the 800 and bought a Kathrein. B**locks to DMM with their constant date changing and broken promises.
