The guys that have seen it over on the DS forum are using PC Cards, so maybe it is not visible on ordinary receivers? Another grab:

The transmission is DVB-S and yah the stream is h222, no successful reception on FTA HD boxes yet as far as I know, if you check another of my screen grabs from there, the video has the private bit set which doesnt help.

Hi kennyboy,

To put pids into your (HD2000).
First Find all (V-pid)..(A-Pid).. (PMC) in other words
all the transponders needed. (*********, best)
Open (Formula 1.1 for HD).
open the Channel list you have uploaded to your (HD2000 STbox).
Goto a Channel thats not used on (28e).
Like a shoping channel, enter (ITV HD) Frequences, (Save).
Then if you know how to move channels in formuls, just move
to your choice.
Then upload your edited list . Done.

Did this take place in (Fomula 1.1), It will have.
Did you change the Channel name at the same time to (ITV HD).
If you did not, it would look the same, and it will have taked a lot of

Where as a change of name will stand out in the list.
Well at least you can now add any Transponder changes yourself.

I really hope that the Technomate 6900 (&6800) can pick up these HD signals or that there will be a software upgrade if that is possible.

It would be a crying shame if a whole raft of HD channels is not available without the need to purchase yet another box. Maybe I will ring Technomate today to ask them.

I would have hoped that Sat providers would have specified STBs that allow different codecs to be loaded as an update. If the Sky HD and the FreeSat HD boxes aren't flexible that is almost a crime.

mrbleu500
06-05-2008, 07:13 PM
From what I have been reading today, the reason for this current setup is temporary, with ITVHD being a metadata stream, as they can't justify giving it it's own transponder because it will only be active initially for specific events (mostly footy).

Also, no freesat boxes have yet to display ITVHD so maybe the use of H.222 is purely for the uplink test, and it will revert to H.264 when it goes live?

pipino
06-05-2008, 08:11 PM
its clear being FTA HD programs as a concept they will have to make money out of it somehow so dont be surprised if they transmit with a special codec...etc ,simply to make ppl buy freesat boxes ,and may be few months or years down the line we will have to buy a cam upgrade to simply use it with smartcard as paying sub, the fooking thing always end up in the same fooking hole ,making us pay more and more!!!, look what happen in germany 2HDTV channels survived only few weeks after transmiting with FTA HD ,aparently is very expensive using HD technology thru sats now days ,so the future of HDTV will be paytv ..

crabber
06-05-2008, 08:28 PM
@pipino you really cheer us up! first card sharing will become impossible with box pairing, then we will have to pay to watch "freesat"
Let's look on the bright side, at least the provider we all love to hate may not be able to see ITV HD on their boxes either, and at last they wont be encrypting channels like 4 and 5 etc.

Using my Clarke Ctech HD5000 (cousin of the TM6900) I can get the audio.
Have to use the channel editor on a PC to add the extra channel for that frequency and download vis RS232.
With VPID set to NOT 3401 then I get audio, as soon as I set VPID to the CORRECT value of 3401 then get audio for a couple of seconds & then warning message of no Video/Audio.

Looks like something in the video stream is fooling most of the HD STB.

BF...

As I posted in the Freesat thread, the spec of the Humax FoxsatHD only lists h.264 so I'm beginning to think the rumours of h.222 are a red herring.

It'll be interesting to see if a Sly HD box can access ITV HD through the add channels function when it is fully active but if ITV want to fcuk Sly they could always use a non-standard SR.

bonovox
09-05-2008, 01:33 AM
As I put in another thread, I think ITV are not allowing sly to add it to their epg which makes it unavailable through the sly box, only maybe through add channels function. There isn't any solid news that suggests ONLY Freesat boxes will be able to receive ITV HD, though. Just cos a normal HD receiver can't receive the test signal doesn't mean it won't be available when they fully launch or when they have HD programmes available. Am I right in saying that even the Humax Foxsat Freesat HD receiver is not able to receive the ITV HD test signal?

As I posted in the Freesat thread, the spec of the Humax FoxsatHD only lists h.264 so I'm beginning to think the rumours of h.222 are a red herring.

Well the video packets last week were certainly encapsulated that way, however its more than possible some parameters have changed i'll take a closer look in the morning.

Hi, Does anyone know if it's possible to get this new ITV HD Chn on a Humax HDCI 2000?

I'm currently running Version:15 so that could be a problem?
However, I understand that if I go back to Ver:07 then I might get both Chn:4 HD and possibly ITV:3? I just require confirmation of this, I have done a rescan today and I can get the French Prog called "Brit Shorts"! But no ITV HD.

Hi Tony baker,

The HDCI2000 is not able to pickup the (ITV HD) signal.
Your box will receive (h.264) signals, but They (ITV) are transmitting in (h.222).
Thats out of the range of most (HD STBs).

I don't think it will be long before you see it on other hd receivers that are patchable, I don't know much
about H.222 standard what I do know is ITV HD is still using the h.264 codec even though its flagged H.222

If you read the speck of any of the freesat recievers they are all MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 no mention of H.222

The ITV have to keep there options open as they may want to sell ITV-HD to Sky as well, so its on the BBC-Freesat & Sky EPG's.

So I doubt if they would muck about with codecs which has been speculated.

As Sky boxes are so limited in options I am sure its an easy task to keep Sky out.

Also I am sure they also want many STB manufacturers to be able to join the Freesat-EPG standard, so strange codecs are a no-no.

Credit goes to a lad called Hook........

ok, I'm doing this from memory now, so you'll have to forgive any mistakes.

stick a usb key in your TM...

Press the usb button and there should be a red button option...

"upload ndf file" or something. Do that, then pull out the usb key and stick it in a pc.

You'll have a file that should be a .ndf file.

COPY THAT FILE SOMEWHERE SAFE! (as a backup just in case)

Now look in the Technomate software section and download a proggy called NDFEditor_Ver158.exe.

run that and open the ndf file.

You'll find that it's a copy of your channel list. You should see a list of Satellites.

Click on the Astra2/Eurobird one (or whatvere 28.2 is in your list) and you'll have a list of transponders...

Go down to 11428 and you'll see britshorts and 10510 etc...

Select 10510:

Change the name to whatever you want (ITV HD)

And input the following:

Service id: 0x290e
Service type: tv
PMT PID [leave blank]
PCR PID: 0x0d49
Video PID: 0x4d49
Audio PID: 0x0d4a
Check Mark AC3

Lastly and most importantly check the box, "Don't Update Video / Audio PIDs"

Save it, and then whack your usb back into your TM box.

click on usb and you should see the .ndf file you've edited. Select it and it'll say something about what you want to update.

Choose Normal and it'll overwrite your channel list with the modified one.

Then go back and find ITV HD or whatever you called it.

This should work, but as I've stressed before I haven't tested it.......................

Well, I'm a bit closer! :sifone:

Used TopSet to alter 11428H transponder to DVB-S2 8PSK, SR 27500 FEC 2/3, also added TP Stream ID of 2315. Modified an existing HD channel to match the ITV HD transponder and SID VPID APID PMT PCR.

Can now confirm ITV HD all working now on Topfield TF7700HSCI, sound and video.

Using TopSet...

Alter Astra2 11428H transponder to SR 27500, DVB-S2 8PSK. FEC 2/3

Modify the additional BBC HD channel labelled '6945', set parameters VPID 3401, APID 3402, PCR 3401, PMT 3400, SID 10510. Note that APID changes to 11594 for some reason...

Select correct (modified) TP, I had a choice of three at 11428H, middle one was correct one, but select by trial and error.

Sound came on after around 30 sec. or so, comes on straight away now when I select channel. Only other slight problem I can see - seems to freeze after around 20 sec., just for a couple of seconds, but then perfect after that. Been working now for 10-15 minutes without a glitch. :D

Update: Sorry chaps, I made an error in the data above, APID 3402 of course.:blush5:

Still working perfectly, no sound or pic problems.

What receiver are you using? Most receivers can have individual channel parameters entered manually. So you should be able to get ITV HD as long as your receiver is one which can handle the transport stream. You can get the necessary parameters from Lyngsat or similar.

There's something peculiar about the ITV HD stream which prevents it being seen by most receivers, even if you input all the parameters manually. I have no idea what the problem is, but firmware updates have appeared for certain receivers to enable them to scan the channel in.

ITV are using a particular type of encoding which is supposed to make it available only on a dedicated Freesat box. However there are about five makes of HD receiver which can handle the transport stream. Two which come immediately to mind are the Fortec Passion and the Technomate 6900. As long as the chipsets can support the necessary firmware, I'm sure more makes of reciever will get updated firmware.

Yes you do it when on ITV1.

We have to wait until their next HD broadcast for it to work, probably Euro 2008?

I watched the 2nd half of the Champions League final OK, but found the sound to be around 1 second ahead of the picture. Someone else said he had to tune out & in again to correct this.

I guess that's why it still testing & not a proper service.

The sound sync problem was due to the very bug ridden Humax Freesat box, as other owners were saying when they reset the box it worked ok.

I think there is an option within the HDCI2000 to alter sound synch.

I have never needed it on mine.

if some of you have a passion hd stb then go to the fortecstar site and download the latest firmware to a usb stick then load it in your passion you will then have itv hd + epg compatability with Freesat broadcasts,...also for those with tm hd stb`s there are several ways to load itv hd but so far no epg on tm`s,..try other sat sites,...cheers,.dobrocop.

Got the same problem with my Ferguson HD8800 also. Got a choice come the football i have managed to get the picture-no sound, or sound without picture Mmm its a hard one, last time when the Champions League was on i used the picture and sound from a digibox only problem you new they had scored before they shot on the screen!
Ive looked at other forums and looked at the same model under different manufactures eg Arion, Homecast.
Anyone got a answer?

Can't help with your receiver, however the answer to your sound problem is a dab radio with pause.

I've got one that I use when the commentary is not in english.

You increment the pause in single seconds until it lines up with the picture.

Yes, I think staying the same format for non-Freesat receivers, unless you get a firmware update.

Oh well, us kathrein owners shall have to watch HD Suisse instead for the HD footy.
