Install everything in correct order - the files are number 1, 2, 3 + file name. If you have already got a previous version of Tomtom installed everything must be removed first.

1) Copy 1.bt.sisx, 2.GPSd.jar, 3.tomtom.sisx and the "TomTom" directory from the Copy.To.MEMCARD.Root.rar file to the root of the memory card
2) Install bt.sisx
3) Install GPSd
3) Install tomtom.sisx
4) Run bt from the applications menu (this apparently can then be uninstalled)

You will also need to add a map (latest is v675.1409) & postcode files.

The following steps must be followed EVERY time you want to use Tomtom with internal GPS receiver :-

1) Run GPSd FIRST from the applications menu then select HIDE ***DO NOT CLOSE***
2) Run TomTom from the applications menu.

Configure TomTom - Go To :-

Menu - Show GPS Status - Configure - SELECT "Other GPS Device" from the GPS setup menu - SELECT BiNPDA GPS from the device list.

When you close Tomtom remember to close BiNPDA.

I can't get this to work on my N95 (not the 8gb version).
I am getting an error when I try to install the 'tomtom.sisx' file. A few others have also had the same problem, bit others have also reported it working without any problems.

[EDIT] - Finally got this working on my N95 after upgrading the software version & using a blank memory card.

Right had the same problem so i uninstalled the tomtom orignal application and then the tomtom.sisx installed fine for me.
only problem now is the application hangs on the start screen and won't go any further all i get it tomtom and the globe spinning nothing else.:banghead:

me too, same problem as above.....followed all instructions, moved tomtom folder, the tomtom just says waiting for a valid gps signal.

The binpda gps software keeps on popping up and says select a device... i select binpda.... the symbol flashes away in the top right corner....then nothing, binpda gps just pops up again.

Hi,
If you get certification error, that means you need to turn off the option to check software certification in the phone security settings.

Hi All,

It is working here, so firstly thanks to Russell as always :)

I just wanted to check a couple of things though:-

1. I can't get it working with version 7 maps. Looking at the version of Tomtom Mobile, it is 6, so is it correct that I can't use version 7 maps?
2. The only way I can get it to work each time is to turn on bluetooth, run Gpsd, then run Tomtom Mobile, and finally set it to use Bindpa each time.

This is not a problem, and probably a characteristic of the hack, but I just though I would check as it is a lot more fiddly than running Garmin Mobile XT / Route66 Mobile - but much more rewarding in the end of course :D

Yes, so can you run the version 7 maps, and do you need to go through my point 2 everytime you want to run Tomtom Mobile on an N95?

Doc

No M8 you can't have v7 maps on Mobiles or PDA's only for use in tomtom genuine sat navs.
As for piont 2 i aint got that far as my N95 just says NO VALID GPS SIGNAL so i get know further. You could try to assign it as trusted and to connect automatic in the bluetooth section of the phone.

Okay will check that out Jono. The reason for my first question is that I loaded the version 7 map for UK and Ireland that Russell posted, but the program could not see it. A version from last July that is on my Go 700 worked first time.

I found that unless you run the BT file, have bluetooth on, run Gpsd (and minimise, i.e. hide), run Tomtom Mobile, select Other GPS Device, and then select BinPDA, you won't get a signal.

Is there a way to make the GPS device persistent in the Tomtom software? Everytime I start tomtom I have to back into the GPS configuration menu and setup the GPS device again...

The reply in message 7 was to a question regarding having a previous version of Tomtom installed. To install this copy all previous versions / files etc should be removed from the phone before installing this copy.

I have installed the software on n95 8gb and gone through the setup time, speech etc, but then it says no maps found, I have put the maps in the root directory v675 maps, any ideas?

Sorted it, cheers, anyone know if there is a later version of the maps than 6.75 uk

There are newer maps, but they are v7 & v8 and will not work with this V6 software, so the v675.1409 are the latest maps you can use with v6 software.

I have a N95 firmware V20.0.015 with Tom Tom 6.020 installed.

I have GPSd and bt installed.

The internal GPS works with maps and GPS data great no problems.

BUT when I enter GPSd it does not pick up the latitude and Longitude and thus I cannot get Tom Tom to work with the internal GPS.

Any ideas anyone?? I have tried changing the positioning server but still no joy.

I do have an external GPS (for previuos phones I owned) and it works fine with that......

But wouldn't it be cool to get the internal GPS working??? is it worth it???

Russell1

Are you using the software from this thread ?
Is this the first time you have installed Tomtom on your phone ?
After starting up GPSd, then select HIDE & then start Tomtom - you need to go into Tomtom menu & configure the GPS - Other Bluetooth GPS receiver - BiNPDA GPS ( - & you need to do this every time you start it up).

To answer your questions Russell, my mate installed the stuff from another place (I still have the link) and at that point when I clicked on GPSd nothing happened at all.... so I found another one to download and when downloading it, it said it was overwriting like for like, BUT this one opened up and showed the lat/long bits. and yes this is the first time Tom Tom has been installed. and yes I realise how it works, open GPSd hide it, then open Tom Tom and configure it to the BiNPDA but upon doing that nothing happens.

I do not think it does m8 as N96 has different symbian version, but i have read somewhere that there will be a version 7 coming out that will work with n96.
Maybe someone knows different but i'm sure that it will not
