Humax hdci2000 "Died"

My Hdci2000 seems to have died, when its switched on nothing appears on the display only a red glow from the optical output on the back, Ive tryed all the normal things like switching it on and off at the mains and the switch on the back but still get nothing. Any ideas, or is it "Dead".
I'ved had it for over two years now and i'm thinking of upgrading any way. What the best HD reciever on the market with a hard drive at the moment?

Hi sounds like your power supply, look in the well known auction site i see they have power supplies for sale, cant remember the price but would be cheaper than a new receiver.. I am also looking for a HD receiver, anyone know what one,s can be patched , i dont want to to buy cams as well .. thinking of the darkbox or one at a similar price,

The most common problem is the, 3 amp fuse in the 2 pin addaptor.

Theres definately power going to the stb as the optical jack lights up when I switch it on, but the front display stays black and nothing outputs from the hdmi, seems strange.

Hi!! I had this problem recently when i exceeded the 4000 channel limit and had to re load latest channel list. this solved the problem as when i reached channel number 4000 it locked up.

Problem is that I cant reload channel list as rs232 connection times out as the stb is not "seen" by the formular program when I switch it on.

On page (GB 79) of the User"s manual, Power Supply,.
It staits (Protection...seperate Internal fuse).
How and were it is, is not clear.
it should be next to power IN.

Spoke to Humax, and the guy thinks its the capacators in the PSU that are knackered, and because its over two years old its out of warranty.
Theres a seller on a well known auction site that does humax PSU exchanges with uprated capacators for 20 quid.
Just wondered if any one has changed their PSU before and how easy it is.

Very often Humax PSUs are meant for 5400 and not for Hdci2000.
I had the same problem with terrestrial version and had to replace all elcos in PSU to get it working again.

easier and a lot cheaper to simply change every capacitor in the
secondary section

Hi £20 is not bad ,its easy to change a power supply, almost all are pluged in to the board..just watch when you unplug them not to strain the wires..if you get a shop to do it it would cost a lot more, and if the caps are uprated then it should last a lot longer, just remember to unplug the mains first, you dont want a nasty shock, and watch the large caps they can hold a good charge and give you a zapp.

Took it to a local TV repair shop in the end, he replaced the caps and only charged me 40 quid.
Up and running again now with a new 1m motorised dish.

that was a problem i had with mine just reflashed an all was well
