USB to RS232 for TM6900

I am looking to get a 6900 but none of my laptops have a serial (RS232) connection on them. Does anyone have any experience with using one of the USB-RS232 adaptors, as I know that they can be a little flakey...

Almost all new laptops do not have RS232 these days, I don't know why receiver manufacturers keep relying on them for updating channel lists and software?

I use one and it works fine. It has written on it " U232-P9". My PC dosen't have an RS232 connection on it.

I have to use one for a card reader on a kathrein receiver, the drivers are written for the prolific chip ones which I guess are probably the most common.
But if you only need it with windows almost any would work I expect.

If I understand you right Mrblue500 to update TM6900 you can use a memory stick and use the USB function on receiver, I use this for software and key updates on my TM 6900 (great receiver by the way), load the memory stick, plug in to TM6900 updates straight off. Its a great feature especially if your computer not close to receiver and saves messing around with the lap top.

in general you can use the usb for updating the receiver , but in case of problems or to load in boot software a null modem cable is also advisable , and so using an adapter with a null modem cable could become imperative at some stage. the serial method is the most reliable recovery method and is cheap to install on any receiver and so they use this as a recovery system due to its tried and tested and cheap technology

therefore I would advise anyone to get these products and to ensure they work , just in case the time comes when they are needed to reflash the receiver , and use the usb method most of the time as its more convenient for most ppl

That's the same type I use, based on a PL2303 chip. It's worked on all the kit I've tried it on, no problems.
