Another installation question...

For those who have actuators can they post how far they move their dishes please

I have a 12inch one or 24 ins when fully open (according to manufacturer)

It travels from 42 east to 30 west -does sound right or should it go further?

Now ive realigned the dish & polar mount properly i noticed yesterday whilst arm was disconnected i can get the channels at 42 west

If i fit an 18 inch one will these cover everything ?

Is anything open on 42 west apart from Galavision??

If you have a dish of 1.2m18inch would be best (but ok with 12inch) or if under 12inch is ample from behind your dish your motor should be on the left hand side fully closed at 42east then when open it should go past 30west if not then move your motor up till you still get 42east and your motor is extended more so passes 30west

All the best Dean.

I use an 18inch actuator gets me from 68e to 58w with no problems

1.1 Triax. 24 " actuator, 50 east 50 west with 6 inches to spare.

Depends on how you mounted it and the angle it pushes the dish m8.

Think COR hit an important note. The actual mount and angles determines how far youŽll be able to drive, not only without hitting the technical limits but also without passing the recommended stress angle.
You can for example run the mount past the stress angle but it certainly is not good because it puts a much larger amount of stress on the construction.

Thanks for your input

Ive had a play around with the jaegar 12 ins actuator - mounted on both on the left & right side of dish & it doesnt seem to be able to get 45 west to 45 east - 30 west to 42 east seems to be the max unless im not mounting it right

I think i will get the 18 inch one & hopefully that will sort it out once & for all

you dont say what make and size dish you have
small dish small actuator
large dish large actuator

The furtheer from the center of the dish the head of the actuator is mounted, the longer it needs to be.

I have madean stainless steel arm with holes drilled in it so i could try different offsettings from the center of the dish, the longer the arm needs to be i.e. the further the head of the actuator is from the center of the dish, the more force the arm has to push/pull the dish, but it will take longer to make the arc.

Then the motor part is offset mounted from the mount, so that it can swivle through the arc and not hit the pole the mount is on.

That distance out of the center of the mount also fixes the maximum degrees you can turn thee dish.

I can go further as 50 east to 50 west, but then roofs will hinder my reception, so i let it be.

The actuaator now never fully retracts or never fully extends, kept greased up with water resistant grease and oncee every 2 years gets disassembled and cleaned and re greased.

Working 10+ years like that.

I have a channel master 1.2 meter dish, jaegar 12ins actuator, channel master polar mount on 3 ins dia ground mount

I have a channel master 1.2 meter dish, jaegar 12ins actuator, channel master polar mount on 3 ins dia ground mount

then a 12 inch is no where big enoth for a 1.2 dish an 18 inch will be better for that size dish
if you get your dish and mount with out an actuator fitted and move it as farr as possible one way and measure the gap between the two points where your actuator fitts and then move the dish and mount as far as possible the other way and measur the same gap again that is about the size actator that you need

ie so if one way it measures say 10 inch and with the dish and mount moved the other way it measures say 28 inch take 10 from 28 and you are left with 18 so to move the full specs you will need an 18 inch actuator at least

. . . . I have made a stainless steel arm with holes drilled in it so i could try different offsettings from the center of the dish, the longer the arm needs to be i.e. the further the head of the actuator is from the center of the dish, the more force the arm has to push/pull the dish, but it will take longer to make the arc. . . . . . .

Ditto, my arm has several drillings.

It is a trade off between maximum angles how fine the single pulse increment is and the time to traverse the full arc.

I currently get four pulses per degree in the centre of the arc.

I have no problem :D

Welded my own mount stainless steel, 316 with my own TIG machine

Made for an 2 meter dish, homemade 18 years back survived lots of force 12 gales

Loafing around with thee 1,1 Triax dish
