Sony OLED TV's get larger and slimmer

Sony have given us a glimpse of the future of flat panel TV's with the successors to their ultra slim 11in XEL-1 OLED TV which is available to consumers in the US and Japan.

The Japanese electronics giant has unveiled a 27in OLED prototype and another screen based on the same technology which is just 0.3mm thick.

OLED technology is based on organic materials which emit light naturally after an electrical charge is passed through them. The result is a device which uses around 40% less power than a traditional flat panel TV.

Although details of the new screens remain sketchy, the fact that Sony have the 11in XEL-1 OLED commercially available gives us confidence that larger and slimmer OLED screens are on the way - lets just hope that some of them turn up in the UK in the not too distant future.
