• Twin DVB-S2 Tuner
• 2 x Plug&Play Tuner Module sockets (DVB-S, DVB-C, DVB-T)

Does that mean four tuners then?

Built in Wi-Fi?

No HDMI?

I think it means a "twin tuner", ie 2 tuners. Won`t have HDMI, DMM haven`t got a licence for it, will likely have the same DVI with custom dvi -> HDMI cable to carry sound.
Don`t know about wi-fi.

whats the problem with no hdmi if the dvi lead is suplied and suports audio i can't see the difference.

HDMI will not license it's use on an Open Source receiver, hence the DVI socket.
Other Linux boxes that have HDMI are not Open Source ;-)

Like Killjoy said

Other Linux boxes that have HDMI are not Open Source

The Ipbox/Cube revo does not have a GUI/main application/frontend open source. There΄s open source and then there΄s open source.

Heh, I think they all know that dreambox is the main player for CS... Maybe a bit of bias there - open source or not.. ;-)

Has anybody sent dream an email asking/applying to be a beta tester then? Any news if so?

What is this going to retail for (any ideas?)? I wonder what their prefferential price is?

It's posted another thread that some applied and were accepted as Beta testers, but the 899 Euros price was not enough incentive.

Hi Guys
This whole saga is becoming a bit of a joke now. Are we all being very silly and showing such enthusiasm for a company that is obviously playing silly B's? Is it not time now for a very good thread on all the current HD boxes with Linux/usb/computer support so that we can all stop waiting for this mythical DB 8000 and put our money into the best that IS available? my HD tele will be worn out before the 8000 ever appears!!!!:smilielol5:Cheers - Brain

I predict a strong competition in Linux HD Sat Receivers.

DarkBox 9000

Ipbox 900/910/9000

Kathrein UFS 910/922

AzBox HD

DM8000 HD PVR

I hope that the Dreambox competitors start inovating and stop copying DM, Enigma and CCCam are far from perfect, bring new OS and Emus.

Depends how long the trial goes on for. There's a lot of peeps just like me waiting for the mother to be released :nopity:

It's my opinion there's not much competition for open sourced receivers out there and it's a good job for Dreambox. If there was then I would be moving on like lots of p1ssed off satists.

guys i remember paying that for an echostar 8700 nearly 20yrs ago.and the chaparral monterey was well over £1000 and neither did anything like what the cheapest digital box will do today, let alone all that the dreambox is capable of.youve all been spoilt over ther last 10yrs with cheap digital boxes.if you want top end you have to pay top end prices, and those prices are still cheap compared to the early days.
for gods sake, peeps will buy a 42 inch plasma tv for over £1000,and then recieve a maximum of 20 or so channels, but your winging at paying this for a box that will give you in excess of 6000 channels, not to mention all of its many other features.ian.

Everything is made in China now, and they churn these boxes out for peanuts. There is no excuse for the high price.

The DM800 is a complete disaster of a box in my opinion which is why I did not bother with it, and doubt if the DM8000 is worth a £400 price premium on top of the price of an IPbox 9000

There are better boxes out there for a lot less money, such as the IPBox 9000 and soon to be released Azbox HD.

If the DM8000 is worth £870 then it will have to be truly amazing, and offer something exclusive that existing boxes don't have.

That is a scam site.

The UK importer is based near the M3, J4 and they trade under dr***boxshop.co.uk and list £869.

If you are keen to dosh out that much, I'd wait until Pimp's sponsor advertises them.

xanadu, why is the DM800HD a disaster?

I know a lot of the problems have been fixed now.

The tuner is still giving problems for some.

The SD quality is reported as not that great.

Overheating is still a problem.

The DM800 offers nothing new, as it does nothing better than other boxes out there.

It's nothing special, that's all.

stefor
08-11-2008, 11:51 PM
I must admit I have a problem with the tuner. you can be flicking around the channels then suddenly a box appears and says "Tune Failure" or something like that. You then have to flick around to different channels until you find one that seems to kick start it again, sometimes for me that can be on another satellite!!

I quite like the quality of the SD channels and the box seems to stay cool. So, as my box is pretty new, I wonder if they've sorted some of the problems out!

Thanks for answering my question.

Cheers
