Hi
I have just connected my Tomtom 520 to the tomtom site for updates and it wants to update the version from version 7.481 to version 8. If I allow it to do this does it mean I will have to update the maps to version 8? or will the older version 710.156 still work fine.
Thanks.

I think the update will stop any copied maps from working, but if it's a genuine map then it will still work.

yes russ is right , but you can just update to navcore v8 and still use your currant v7 map like i did .

But stupid here just let Home do the update and as Russ said, I now get:

Problem with Map
You cannot use this map on this
device: Western_Europe_1GB

The map is on a memory card so I can just copy the original config but is there a way to validate the copied map on v8

How do I just update to navcore v8 and still use the current v7 map ?

The unit is a Tom Tom One XL

The latest version (8.010) seems a bit suspect. I let TT Home update my internal memory and it worked OK with its original v7 UK map.

Then I let TT Home update the SD card with W. Europe (copied) v7 map in the unit and that didn't work - just as Russell said. No big problem as I had a back up.

Then I removed the SD and the originally working system started a new sequence requiring the preferences to be set but it failed at the select voice option and just froze for about a minute and then automatically restarted.

Now I thought that when an SD card was in use the internal memory was inactive so I am well confused.
