Use dcc to telnet into the box and type passwd then follow the instructions.
**this should work mate, works with enigma 1, on tm9100**

Would this be the same as going to blue panel, extra settings, passwords, changing passwords for root?
Telnet:
After Start > Run > cmd write the following:
telnet XXX.XXX.X.XX (your Dreambox IP) > enter > root > enter > the current password > enter > passwd > enter > write the new password > enter > the new password again > enter > exit
Well it looks like I've finally got it, working now even changed password in a telnet session.Think problem was it never asked me for a password but I always put in dreambox in the line after dm800 login but I think this was not the password prompt but the line where I should have put "passwd".Should it ask for a password if "dreambox" is the default password.

first time you install an image, it doesn't have a password as default onthe dm800. Hence, why it wasn't asking for a password after typing root...
sorry to jump in on this one but how do i create a password for the root so that when i put the ip address in to my browser it ask me for username: root password: excample like my tm9100 does. dm800 never has asked me to put these in.
help appreciated

Just telnet into the box by typing "open 192.168. xx.xx" (the ip of your DM) when you are in root type passwd & press enter then enter the password you require & confirm that should do it.
