Gemini 4.40 on Clone boxes

Hi guys, I've not found a complete set of instructions for this in one place so i'll post mine here.

I only did this two days ago and my clone box has working fine with Gemini 4.40. So decide upon yourselves if this is enough time to feel safe doing this.

I'll post both the fw2 and img files. Only the IMG file flashed 100% for me so I recommend that one.

ATTENTION : Don't forget to make a backup image !

1st Download FLASH ******* and upload the modified firmware image "brainwave-firmware-mac-hack.img" to dreambox

2nd Reboot dreambox and then, connect using telnet (use dhcp, and find the assigned IP in the control panel).
The login/password are the default credentials (root/dreambox).

3rd execute the script calling it like this :

/bin/patchME XX XX XX XX XX XX

The XX XX XX XX XX XX is the desired MAC ADDRESS. Do not use colons to separate the bytes.
example:

This is ok --> /bin/patchME 00 09 34 01 AA 55

This is not ok --> /bin/patchME 00:09:34:01:AA:55

Congratulations ! Mac address permanently changed.

No one should be using any version of Gemini on a clone DM500s box, it is far too dangerous and could destroy your box.

There are many good and safe alternatives.

I'm with Burnham. Whats so good about Gemini? Nabilo is pretty stable for me-why risk it?

Yep take their advice m8, I dont think the Gemini team are too keen on clone box users. They say they arent in cahoots with Dream manufacts affter the last debacle but better to be safe than sorry as above there are plenty other images.

are the gemini images using the mac address check to determine if a box is a clone as that can be easily changed or are they using other methods

Gemini did use the mac addy to identify clones, they now say that it won't happen again.
Your choice but I would not risk it.
Use Nabilo or SIF images.
I have never known what all the fuss is about with Gemini any way as there are far better images to choose from. :sifone:
