the front display clock seems to function, but i cannot get unit to exit standby red standby light is on , have tried rebooting etc to no avail,

i fear my trusty5400 has finaly given up the ghost if so what to replace 5400 with (5400z) or dreambox

This is the power supply problem you need to replace it (easy DIY job)

Most likely the well know board problem...power off and remove the cover look closely at the board if ye can see 'black smoke' or burn marks (check the smaller parts!) then ye will to get the board repaired...there’s a UK e...bay..er will do it for bout 30 quid! ye need to removing the board and post takes about 3/4days...make a note where the connection cables and screws go...it’s easy...best luck.

thanks for replies, seems humax will not reboot, suspect power suply,

as my hummy is about 7 years old was thinking possible new reciver.
it seems technomate 5400 is simular to humax and about £90 and simular in operation firmware/keybin.

i am possibly considering dreambox but it has been suggested its a steep learning curve to be able to use and operate, networks etc although i have a wireless router and ps3 i am really not sure how it all operates .

ps3 tends to be used for dvd replay.

thanks all:respect-051:

Techno 5400 would be close to Hummy...but believe all receivers will go linux same as DM...you need to consider if ye want HD + HDMI etc if thats the case its a mine field!...although DM as the most support and widely available forums of helpful peeps...they have missed the boat and all await the DM8000 @ 700 Euro!

My advice would be to get cheap linux based receivers and learn...once yer runnin then decide...try to avoid the DM 500 as there are alot of clones out there.

ps...the PS3 can run YellowDog linux (but that won't get ye TV!)

Best Luck
