Hi,
I have allways used my old Bush video recorder to record the things I want to watch again. I dont save a lot and usually wipe the 4.7g RWs and re-use them regularly. I notice that the TM6900 Super has a USB external drive connection. I would like to reduce the clutter by doing away with the Bush and just using the smallest possible hard drive to record video.
I have seen a 2.5" 120gig at a reasonable price. This would be plenty big enough for me, and it is very compact.
Question... Is it really just plug it in and go for good quality video on an external hard drive.?

Alternatively.... A 16gig pen drive would do for the occasional programme , are they up to it?
it costs around the same price for a small drive as for a resonable size hard drive. dont see the point myself in spending money coss its small instead of something that does not limit u to much. but u are the buyer.

also consider HD recordings will use more memory than SD you may need more storage than you think

******s have reduced the price of the seagate free agent 500 gb drive = now 64 quid.
there are some processes to go through to set it up but there are instructions on TM website.
The seagate also looks good !

oldjiver - how is the Maxtor Basics working with your TM6900? Is this a 2.5 or 3.5 inch HD, by the way?

Its a 3.5inch as the 2.5 requires 2 USB connections because it has no independant power supply like the 3.5. I did manage to get the drive to record 10 minutes of HD content eventually and the quality was very good, impossible to tell from live HD broadcast.
So the drive appears fine, shame about the receiver.

if its the same as the usb external hdd operation in the 6800/6900 first models then it wont wake up the hdd from standby for timer recordings,.thats if the hdd has an external power supply,..on my 6800 [previous model] hdd has to be powered thru usb,..but there IS supposed to be a 500 wd drive +ex powersupply that can wakeup when told to by stb ,[ i have the model num somewhere]..think it might have a chip built in,..but as i dont know the new super models then im quite prepared to be proven wrong,..?????dobrocop.
