Guys I am about to pull my hair out.
I just acquired a 500 and am trying to use vlc/WEB-X-TV to stream but both option are unsuccessful :(.
I tried almost every thing under the sun including google and all the solutions found proven to be unfruitful!
Just to summaries what i have done so far!

Can logon to dreambox (Enigma - 4.2.0, 17.12.2007) via Firefox, can change channels etc.
Can ping to DB successfully
Set the DB to static IP address

In the streaming option:
Have changed the Server IP Address to PC IP address
Have changed the VLC Admin Userid = root and VLC Admin Password = dreambox
Have tried putting the channel ID with vpid/apid directly in the VLC (open network) to no avail.

I am not sure what else i could do, seems i have almost exhausted all the options available on the this forum/google and yet no luck.
Is there any brave soul out here would like to advise what i have done wrong?
cheers

When you installed VLC, did you tick the mozilla add-ons?

@ MandM ...back to your Post No.1:-

Assuming VLC is correctly installed, proceed as follows:-

Open VLC
Goto File>Open Network Stream
Enable:- HTTP/HTTPS/FTP/MMS URL
Next to URL, insert the following:- http://root:@192.168.xxx.xxx/video.m3u
Instead of 192.168.xxx.xxx, enter your Dreambox IP Address
Press OK
Small Window pops up
Enter:-
Login = root
Password = your Dreambox password (dreambox by default)
Press OK
Streaming should start on your PC.

Ignore above as i have to donwlaod and install the software, rather than just unzip the attached files

For future reference:
Downlaod and install the latest version of Tuxvision from below
h**p://www.dbox2.info/download.php?viewpage=2&catid=5&subcat=

after successful installation

On PC open dos prompt - start>run>cmd

cd (path to folder Tuxvision)

regsvr32.exe DBOXIISource.ax - enter

a 'succeeded' message should appear

Now Run (start program) tuxvision
Select 'Options' to enter DB IP address, logon ID and password and then hit the preview button.
thats all folks

Hi mate
Thanks for your input:
I think i have a later/older version of the VLC which does not have
File>Open Network Stream

instead i have

Media>Open File>Network

I can only select one protocol at a time from the drop down list (HTTP/HTTPS/FTP/MMS)

In the URL i enter http://root:@192.168.1.7/video.m3u
port 1234 (default) cannot change

Anyway after entering the above parameters i got the following error message:

Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'http://root:@192.168.1.7/video.m3u%20'. Check the log for details.

Yes, you are most probably using the latest version. I use VLC version 0.8.6c on Windows XP and found that streaming method to be the easiest and fastest. There are other methods too, of course, including Tuxvision and Dreamview among the more popular ones. Cheers.
