garmin streetpilot 111

Hi all, my mate got 1 of these from somewhere,
and im trying to sort out some up to date maps for him,
the discs hes got are Mapsource European City Navigator
Version 5.00, can some kind person help me out,
Is this unit any good for anything it was originaly
baught in May 2004 and has a 128mb card and progger
with it. The pc loding software is European City Navigator
SP3 Version 2.01, on boot up the unit says copywrite 2001-2002.
Whats the latest maps that will work with it,
Can they be alterd to work and a gentle hint on how and where
to look for info/tutorial etc,
ive had the plesure of playing around with TT stuff so il
give this a go.

First, I'd connect it to the Garmin site. I am sure it will update you to the latest software version free, it did for mine. That will be a start.
Now, at the risk of ECHELON having by balls on his Xmas Tree this year, it's all to do with a search for keys that generate.

thanks for reply Dark Cloud there is no pc interface cable in
the box so i will have to get 1 before going any further,
probably start on that auction site,
This garmin stuff sounds well complicated with pc card loader
to put part maps on to data card and then transfer to unit
and when thats full you start again and the card is only
128 mb, still going to try and sort it.
One thing what is the latest version of maps that will
work with this unit, ill work the rest out as i dont want you to
end up as an xmas tree decoration.

I haven't fiddled with mine too much, nor the sat nav,.....lol. but it has Software Version 6.60 which was updated from the website and it says GPS s/w 3.00 which is doing me fine until I take the notion to experiment more.
The pc cable is the same as the one for cameras & videos.

not true some cables are different they will fit and will look like they should work but they don`t

My advise would be to get rid of it and go for a 2720 or 2820 or Zumo. they are all faster. have enough memory for full UK maps and Europe loaded.I have used Garmin Sat Navs for 7 to 8 Years on my Motorcycle in Europe and UK I started with a Streetpilot 111
it was heavy because of all the Batterys it carried and unbelievable slow things have moved on.
