hi
i am hoping to set up a dish for getting nilesat, at least the v transponders, h is i am lucky!! i am based just outside of brighton on the south coast. any advice regarding best dish makes, lnbs, installers etc would be much appreciated. my max size would be 1.2m attached to a technomate 5600 which i undersatand has one of the most sensitive tuners. presumably for a 1.2m dish then this would need to be mounted rather than fixed to a wall?
cheers for any guidance

You are in one of the best loctions in the UK for Nilesat:respect-069:.

You have to get a 1.2 Channel Master with Channel Master Feedhorn and Invacom c120.

( Channel Master new name is Andrews now )

With this setup you have a very good chance of getting some H transponders on a clear day/night.

Go for it and let us know your results.

You will not get the H with a 1.2, i am much further east and struggle.
I have 2 channel masters and recently replaced my feedhorn with a darkgold 0.1lnb and had a increase in signal over my feedhorn and invacom c120.
With my 1.2 i can get H in good conditions and with sensative reciever tuners, ie ok with my technomate5400ci+usb not with dreambox 7020.
With my 1.8m get not probs all

might also consider the gibertini 1.5

yes the gibertini 1.5m might be an option for you if you cant have anything like a 1.8m

1.2m dish can be wall mounted just use strong brackets and good fixings like sleeve anchor bolts from b&q

my channel master dish with heavy jaeger 1224 motor holds up well on some t&k brackets

With regards to the UK and Nilesat 7W reception, the further east and the further south you are, the better the signal. the further west and north you go the weaker the signal. Reception is also better when the weather is good and gets better from about 9pm in the evening till about 4 or 6am in the morning and then weakens through the day hours. Vertical channels are much, much stronger.

Rough guide for horizontal channels (the weakest ones)

Tip of Kent 1.0 -1.2 m
London / South coast 1.2 -1.5m
East Anglia 1.5 -1.8m
Bristol South Wales 1.8-2.0m
SW Eng 2.0 -2.4m
Midlands, South Ireland 2.4 - 3.0m
Lancashire & Yorkshire North Wales Northern Ireland 3 -3.5m
Boarders Tyneside 4.0m+
Scotland ?? yikes

Vertical channels require much smaller dishes and can be obtained as far north as Scotland on not too big a dish.

Vertical only
Tip of Kent 60cm
London / South coast 80cm
East Anglia 1.0m
Bristol South Wales 1.0m
SW Eng 1.0m
Midlands 1.0 -1.2m
Lancashire & Yorkshire North Wales Ireland 1.0-1.5m
Boarders Tyneside1.2-1.5m
Scotland 1.2-2.0m

This is always a very interesting subject and I never tire of reading about it.

The location/size guide given above is useful and I live in East Anglia and I have wondered about getting a 1.8 metre dish.

I can get the verticals currently on my 1.1 metre dish.

There are problems though regarding cost and room to put it as I would want it motorised and not just fixed on 7 west.

I will get there eventually though.

I find either 11862V or 12015V to be the strongest currently.

Yes Newquay ....you are looking at 2.4m dish (and a quality dish at that). I am in South Devon 10 miles from the south coast and just about get all the channels providing its not raining with a 2m IRTE & C120 Invacom 0.3 LNB.

I can just about scan the strong tp's, but they are not watchable. Only got a 1m orbit and a bog standard 0.6 lnb, 2.4m out of the question unfortunately wouldnt get away with it on the wall and I have trees all around the back garden, and they aint little ones either plus the kids would trash it if I tried to floor mount it on the grass!
