How old is your dish?

I was sorting out some old receipts and realised my 1.2 channel master is now over 20 years old, and still as good as when it was new.
This made me wonder how many old dishs are there out there and still working away:rolleyes:

And the current 24" echostar Supperjack II has been moving since late 1993:respect-054:

8 years. Triax TD110, Its still in great shape. I clean it about every 6 months with warm soapy water.

I had major problems with my Stab motor about 4 months ago, it was going crazy. I took down the dish and opened up the motor to find about 100 earwigs inside. Evicted the earwigs, cleaned out the insides and regreased the metal gears. Everything back to normal again :)

Guess what? 20 year old as well( I think).

The Dutch Sly channel had been encrypted, but a couple of days before we had the sat system installed, murdoch bought sly channel, and it went FTA.......until the major Sly launch the year later :frown:

It's a 1.7m trac(?)dish.....they told us to get planning permission for a 1.5m then put up a 1.7m, the sly cnuts. :respect-048:

i got my echostar in 1995 and still have the 12 " jack it came with , but now use a 24 " jack on the dish with v /box was on the old pace 500 that i still have , the 12 " jack now goes to a second v/box to move the dish up and down when i need to helps a bit on nilsat ect .. im sure the new dishes will not last this long

Gregorian bought early 80's changed the lnb when I went digital other than that it's like my trusty yard brush 3 heads & 6 handles in 30 years still going strong

1m Lenson Heath on a Jaeger Silent Gold 99 H-H still looks like new after 15 years. Believe it or not my Pace 508IP is still fully functional as well and being used to drive the dish. The analogue Eurosport from 19E is much better than the crappy British offering too!

Just had a look back at my VISA receipts - Bought a Channel Master 1mtr in Hertfordshire in 1990 - moved it up to N. Wales in 98 and still goin strong with original jack, but on the third Reed Relay and fifth LNB !!

My dish is a 10 year old 1M Lenson, no rust and still going strong. In that time I have replaced the actuator twice and LNB 3 times.

I'm not sure how old my dish is, bought it secondhand from a guy on the Den, a 1m Funke dish and 1224 H2H motor, had it for about 5 years, still like new. My previous dish was an 85cm steel job that was falling apart after 10 years and 4 house moves.

I'm afraid my system is like the roadsweeper who has only ever had one broom in 50 years.

Of course, it has had 10 new heads and 7 new sticks during that time.

I bought a non-working steerable 1m prime focus off a m8 in 1991.

Cured by a new 120 flanged LNB back in the days when the skew was built into the feedhorn.

Then I needed a larger range so swapped the 12" Jack for an 18".

The original dish had a strange focal length so I bought a 120cm offset from L!dl and with a bit of welding added that to the steering gear.

Later fitted it with a quad LNB.

For the gf I put up a fixed 80cm with 3 LNBs (28E, 19E and 13E with quads but an octo on 28) and apart from the Sly+ box all feeding 4x1 DiSEqC switches.

Then there is a similar fixed set-up at work.

Next I will try to shoehorn another LNB on the 80cm for 16E now that Prem!ere is going but I doubt if I can get that in an optimum position even if I do mount it upside down.

80cm from 1995, used to have an IRTE multisat on it to move LNB across from 1w to 19e. 1w was a wee bit snowy, lol.

But daughter dropped the remote control in a bucket of water when she was a baby. It'd subsequently work intermittently by pushing really hard on the buttons with flat side of a screwdriver.

That's long gone and I now have twin lnbs 19e and 13e and just lost Premiere on my Dragon, but that's going way off topic, lol.

I think when I put this dish up 80cms had to have planning permission, I may be wrong. I never did ask and it's still there.

mines over 20yrs old as well,but ive had 3 actuators during that time and quite a number of different lnb's and feedhorns as well from mechanical skew to magnetic to the voltage swithing of today.ian.

my current triax 90cm dish is around 2 years old and i have been through 2 diseqc motors and because of that i have fixed the dish to 1west for the time being

i have a channel master and 1224 to replace it with, which i hope will last quite a few years

its just having dry weather to install it at the moment

Its a 90cm fibo gregorian dish which I clean once every year. Also lubricate the motor every few years.

2x orbital 1m 4 years old an 1x orbital 80cm 6 years old funkee 1m think is 5 or 6 years old i have an old amstrad white dish from the sky analog days as well as two 60cm mesh dishes from then two i sold my zone2 elipitical still have two zone1s in bits though one is a channel master with a phillips lnb
have a spare skystar lnb for it an the other came with a grundig lnb
the zone1s are from the early days of digi but cant say how old exactly

id say the mesh 60cm has served me very well traveled to scotland an back picked up hotbird on a tripod in windy peterhead with the help of some ground weights its been batered but still going strong
ive had the most use from my orbital 80cm its been fitted on 5 diffrent gaffs an is still perfect its seen 3lnbs the latest being a triax one

hi all my dish is a lenson heath 1 mt and an 18" superjack i have it up about 20 or 22 years painted it british racing green to blend with the hedge round it good picture with this set up but i would like a 1.2 mt dish but to costly to send over to n/ireland where i live near belfast

Mine was probably a few years old when I got it, and it's been in use here since about 2000, so I would guess at least 10 years.

There is some rust around the base now, must get the anti-corrosion paint out ;)

My last dish is coming up to 15 years old now. With this and previous dishes I have had 4 actuator arms, Countless lnb`s for the old polarisers the best by far the old quad band genuine 0.8 max SMW. The modern lnbs even though they are less noise dont work as well, perhaps because there is no skew.

Still working on my latest secondhand dish Gregorian Delta Star 1.2 don't know how old he is but looks almost new to me, the Delta Star 0.9 is +/- 15 years old but still in a real good condition with new flance Invacom Lnb.
If i put my Triax 1.10 (6 years old) back with 2 more Lnb's like you can see on first picture i'am 100% prepare for 2009
