re they just burning theese movies on to a blu-ray disc?and classing them as high def?

Movies that are originally shot on film (35mm) are hi def, 35mm has a high resolution it would look pretty crap on a huge cinema screen if it wasn't

The problem is film stock degrades over time if its not stored carefully and even if it is stored carefully it still suffers, don't forget this movie is nearly 25 years old

Not to mention that this release was a single layer MPEG-2 blu ray

You should check out the reviews on "high def digest" might help you avoid the really crap transfers :)

yes i know its a old movie but every thing is filmed in high def even back then, looking on the site that tnt gave me terminator got a good score for high def is that new out no,it all depends on how much time they spend restoring the movie

Well once Blue ray won the format race they stopped bothering. And are putting all sorts off crap out under the guise of hd.

they want you to double dip so they will release an all sing all dancing version "remastered from the original negative" blah blah blah. you know somthing is off when the tv rip looks better.

just took delivery of Robocop... playing atm i loved the movie in it's orginal format and thought the BD version would clean it up and be an inprovment on the audio.....well i'm wrong in both instances the transfer is absolute **** so grainy it beggers belief i've changed the settings on my display pumped the NR Mosqueto etc made little diiference.... and the sound in spite of being DTS HD is firmly fixed on the front 3.

just to add guy's this is on a fairly decent system full Hi-Def 1080p display and 1008p 24 bit player.

so if you don't wanna be dissappointed dont get this disc.

There is a difference between a bad transfer and old stock film that needs loads of work and grain is an inherent part of film even new stuff

But as I said above Blu Ray also still uses single layer MPEG-2 on some releases so how on earth could it be great quality and RoboCop is one such release

Its a shame HD DVD was lost as they were all MPEG4/H2.64 and always beat blu ray releases in reviews

You should have read the review first though

Maybe buy an MNT player then you could download Blu Ray rips instead save yourself some money :respect-051:
