Some people seem to have short memories.

It's always like this when a new encryption is introduced. Unrealistic expectations of a hack just round the corner by some/mixed with doom and gloom by others.

Fact is that virtually nothing has so far proved impossible to hack. We may not get Premiere back in the next year or so but if the past is anything to go by, it will be cracked.

The broadcasters know that so that they won't stop investing in new ever more sophisticated encryption systems to combat ever more resourceful (in the main commercial) hackers.

In the meantime there will be other packages I'm sure.

I have no idea how correct any of that is.

How quickly did patches for N2 come out after all of N1 was switched off? And, were the first hacks only available to paying customers?

If I remember rightly the first Premiere hacks were on cards, such as Didem, Zebra, Daytona, Anaconda, and then later on T-Rex Super and Diablo only.

Eventually PW was available on all EMU's.

it was not long ago when things went all black (just before the world cup if i remember rightly) after a few months we had d+ prem tps polsat and loads others on or screens.

dont doom and gloom just yet no doubt there will be something else just around the corner

So basically, the user bought a certain card, put it in a certain CAM and it opened the channels. I suppose the people making the cards would have preferred it not to have 'leaked out' generally and then be put into emu receiver patches? ie they would have been able to keep on selling the 'exclusive' cards and/or CAMs?

There is no fixed timescale, but you could expect to wait 6 months or more.

PW last time become public after about 2- 3 months.

IF PW gets hacked then I would imagine that D+ would also be hacked at the same time as both use same encryption.

It depends how long it takes to crack and how much money the hackers want in return for their efforts.
