i assume its itv1 or am i wrong , i read freesat have it ,, or is it a case of buy say a techo hd receiver and thats it???

As far as I can make out, ITV HD DOES tend to put out the same progs as ITV1, unlike BBC HD which has a mixture from ALL its channels - but thats only when it IS actually on at all, which seems to be MEGA rarely and seems to be predominantly for sporting events such as soccer and boxing!
As for actually RECEIVING it, I personally dont have to worry about the 'messy' way of scanning it in to your particular brand of HD stb as it can vary, but I use a pre-selected channel list with my TM6900HD Super which already has it on for me - I use Satpaul's list which is the best - in my opinion!
These are the details you use to scan in 11426 H 27500 2/3:-

EuroBird 1 (28.5E) - 11426.00 H - Txp: C5 - Beam: Steerable 1 DVB-S (QPSK) - 27500 2/3 - NID:59 - TID:2315

Once scanned in you see ITV HD named only as a number: 10510 which you have to manually rename as ITV HD!
You MAY also have to manually edit VPID to 3401!
