The Whole Town's Talking (Film)
Edward G Robinson plays dual roles in John Ford's crime comedy. He is Arthur Jones, a mild-mannered clerk who happens to be the exact double of escaped gangster 'Killer' Mannion. After being arrested and proving his true identity, Jones is given a 'passport' that will prevent him being re-arrested. But when Mannion hears of this do***ent, he's determined to lay his hands on it - what better way to continue his life of crime? Mistaken identities and double-crosses galore ensue, with Jean Arthur as Jones' co-worker Wilhelmina Clark, who's never quite sure who she's fallen for.

The Siege at Red River (Film)
Rudolph Mate's lavish Civil War action film stars Van Johnson as Confederate agent James Faraday, who steals a Gatling gun prototype from the Yankees easily enough. But smuggling it south through enemy territory proves decidedly tricky, especially with detective Frank Kelso on his back, treacherous scout Brett Manning double-crossing him, and with nurse Nora Curtis to protect.
Director: Rudolph Maté
Starring: Van Johnson, Joanne Dru, Richard Boone, Milburn Stone, Jeff Morrow, Craig Hill
(Subtitles, 1954, U, 2 Star)

The Way West (Film)
Andrew V McLaglen's epic western stars Kirk Douglas as Senator William Tadlock, who gives up the Senate to lead a wagon train to Oregon. They encounter the normal perils - hostile Indians, raging rivers - but the film also shows the diverse mixture of those seeking a new life, and the photography captures the grandeur of the untamed West.

Starring: Kirk Douglas, Robert Mitchum, Richard Widmark, Lola Albright, Sally Field, Katherine Justice
(Subtitles, 1967, PG, 2 Star)
