Reading a cnet review of HD Tv, the reviewer said that LCD Tvs do not do 1080i "interlaced". they merely take the signal and convert it to 720p which (he says) is not good. He says that 1080p is unlikely ever to be transmitted by Sly etc, as it is just uneconomic.
Is it worth spending more on a 1080p when it may be of no use?
Is 720p the the future of TV?

alot of bluray films are 1080p. So if you want to watch movies on this format then 1080p tv is a must who knows what the future holds 1080p obvousley needs more space meaning signal through satelite would have to send more info to your reciever to get 1080p tv... sly and other hd channels are mainly concentrating on getting hd up and running and early recievers only support 720pand 1080i signal (1080p has 4 times more lines). if bluray takes off which is starting to look likely then will sly and others go into the 1080p arena id say its a possibility. id get one just for bluray (i got ps3)

The Japanese are trialling Super Hi-Vision (a.k.a. Ultra High Definition) as a broadcast standard by 2015. With its 33 megapixel (7,680 x 4,320) resolution and 22.2 channel surround sound.

I read that you would have to sit about 4 feet from the tv in order for the eye to actually make out the extra detail of 1080p. This is more likely to appeal to the gamer but for relaxed film viewing on the sofa it's not likely to be an option.

depends what screen size your using, 1080p on a 32" screen is going to be a waste for hd viewing even a 42" tv at viewing distance of 12 feet you would struggle to notice the diffrence between 720/1080p, sit far enough back and sd looks good. 50"+ and 1080p is were its at :)
