Hi,
Was thinking of getting a Toshiba 42" from John Lewis for £599.
But now the new Toshiba Regza 42ZV555D seems to be the best set available as it has "UPSCALING" technology for all signals. Giving near HD for ordinary SD pictures.
Should beat all other makes hands down for SD quality.
At £899 seems a real bargain. Think I will wait till John Lewis gets it for the 5 year guarantee.

The ZV was advertised as "THE FIRST UPSCALING TV"
Just noticed the ZF is advertised the same "THE FIRST UPSCALING TV"
Perhaps they will make their mind up soon??????????????????

You'll never get any of today's SD to look anywhere near HD no matter how many tricks they want to use, the bit rates just aren't there.

Well as 90% of programmes are likely to be SD in the forseeable future any improvement is welcome.
It will be interesting to see the first reviews on quality.

Read the first review. Seems OK but not brilliant.
Will wait a bit longer

Toshiba's advertising is slightly misleading if you ask me, any screen from any manufacturer thats 720 or 1080 upscales all sources if it didn't we would be watching SD with a black border all round top, bottom, left and right, one of the reasons good screens cost more is because of the processors that do the upscaling

When you speak of SD you should separate it into its different formats, Video, DVD or Broadcasts as they are all different

Low Res low bitrate broadcasts are never going to look great but SD DVD can already have a hi def feel on a screen with a good processor ;)

Very pleased with the Toshiba/TM6900Super LAN combination. HD is superb and SD very good.
I think most tellys are quite good now. The difference is the broadcast quality and the STB. Some SD channels are hard to tell from HD.
