Loking at TVs in Tescos recently. All the Sonys/ Toshibas/ Samsungs/ looked OK but the best picture BY FAR was the 42" LG3000. It looked absolutely brilliant. I mentioned this to another onlooker who agreed. However he said the difference is often how they set up the TVs.
The LG3000 is an old model but it looked the best of any set I have ever seen in a store?
Is it that good?

Having said that i dont think you can go buy what they look like in the stores, as what you usually find is they will make the tv's they want to get rid of have the best picture.

From what i have read its a good tv and at less than 500 pound it looks a great deal.

It's the black levels that are most important on an LCD TV.

You won't see this in a shop, unless you go to a specialist with a dark cinema demo room.

Most people watch movies with the lights off.
Your local Comet,Curry's,Tesco, will not be able to show you a proper demo.

Mushy greys instead of blacks will ruin your enjoyment of a good movie.

I have noticed its only 720p. Which is why it is so cheap for a quality set.
I know we wont get much 1080p for years (if at all) but some Toshiba 1080p sets are going down in price now.

My Panosonic 42px80 is only HD ready at 720 but works perfectly with 1080 sources, it also makes a good fist of the sd channels and freeview which is important.

My only beef is that the picture geometry is never right on the auto or the presets, the broadcasters are all over the place with picture size and a manual resize option would have been very disirable.

Got a Toshiba 42xv555db 1080p in the end. Meanwhile while I am waiting for it to be delivered I have connected my new TM6900super LAN to my old 32" Technosonic. WoooooW The HD is superb, but the SD is so much better than I had before with my TM5500 or my Sly box.
It had shown me its what you put in that is equally important.:hurray:

My local TV store always runs a Blu Ray DVD on his demo sets. Brilliant picture but not the same when you get home to see your cable programmes on the same TV!!!

I must say I am extremely happy with my Toshiba /TM6900HD, superb pictures. BUT I saw a 60" hooked up to bluray 1080p in a store the other day (cant remember the TV make) WOW!!
Unfortunately I think the TM is only 1080i.

I went out last year to get a new telly, was looking for either a 37 or 42 inch, ended up spending £500 more than i budgeted for but got an LG50"plasma, only use either ps3 or Foxsat HD and cant say how lovley the pics look in HD, lights off or on, they still look very nice... even tho at the time 15000-1 contrast was bloody good you can get better a year on ie: 30000-1, cant grumble.. seems like LG are big winners in this thread :D
been in tescos and i would say that some of their TV's are set up by RF.. not HDMI?
but then i didnt get it from there, currys had a good demo room, so me thinks that sold it.

wow:)
