As long as your box is in plain sight of the remote control the eye is not needed,
it will operate perfectly without it

    Hi seagate1,
When you say magic eye I assumethat you mean infra-red remote eye, for flashing you do not need that to be connected just follow the instructions below.
It is taken from LeeGW guidein the help section above.

    1. Install image.
Download a USB image file, eg Blackhole Image from
    https://www.satpimps.co.uk/forumdispl...Vu-Zero-Images

Unzip the BlackHole-vuzero_usb.zip file and extract the vuplus folder to a USB PEN Drive.

After unzipping to the pen drive you should have a folder on your USB pen drive named vuplus

In the vuplus folder is another folder named zero

Power off Vu+ Zero with switch on the back.
Insert the USB Pen Drive into the USB socket on the back.
    Power on Vu+ Zero.

The white LED on the left side of the front panel will begin pulsing.

The pulsing indicates it's flashing the image.

Once the image has successfully flashed the pulsing will stop and change to blinking on and off.

When the white LED is blinking on and off it's now safe to power off with the switch on the back and remove the USB Pen Drive.

Power on again to reboot the receiver, job done.

    Hope this helps,

    nml

The magic eye is just an Infrared sensor for your remote control.

When you press a button on the remote it basically just flashes an IR led on and off very fast - the magic eye senses the light from that and sends a signal to the IR receiver - this just gets converted to a hex code, and as the VU is constantly 'listening' for these - it does things like change channels and such like.

Flashing your box does not rely on receiving remote control codes.

Also this magic eye is only needed if your box is in a cupboard under the TV or in another place where the box can't see the remote control IR light - it just a sensor extender at the end of the day.
